Performance evaluation
My group-
Overall I wasn't too happy with the performance. At the start Sean forgot his lines and started saying them out of order or skipping parts of lines which threw me off but I kept going and stuck to the cue lines because I learnt my lines really well but there was some confusion which messed up the performance a bit. We got back on track and the line issue fixed itself and we had a good energy and characterisation. I knew my objectives well and played them. We had a good range of emotion and knew what our characters were feeling and experiencing and I really took into consideration that Angel was there and it was on my mind throughout the performance and having a chair there as an Angel helped focus that attention.
The performance would have been better without messing up the lines but the mishap taught me how to deal with these situations and we kept going in a professional way and got back on track which was good.
After watching the other groups I wished we put more devised work into it and used more physicality and if we did this again I would make it more physical and brechtian.
Another group-
One group who did really well was the big group of 8 with Amy, Luke, Seb, Nicole, Hannah ext. I really likes the use of music because it made it exciting and created a fun atmosphere but it kept in the theme of the play because it was 'we are family' by Sister Sledge, the music was also very brechtian because Brecht uses music to distance the audience but also create spas. They had lots of imaginative parts that worked with the lines and at all points the whole group was being used to make an interesting image. Where they were such a big group they had lots of ideas such as when they all became cats and used gestus to intensify the story cousin was telling and show the dominance and power Cousin had over the animals. They had the scene with the game where they pair up and create a sound, this was a scene I found really weird when I was reading the play but I enjoyed the way this group did it because they didn't show the game they showed the preparations up to it which showed the neglect of Angel by her Mother and them choosing to be vultures. Throughout the scene Angel was kept away from the family and fairly central to show how she is isolated and alone from the family, I think this was a good decision and an interesting use of gestus. This group was the most memorable for me and I think that has to do with how brechtian it was and it proves that using certain techniques you can captivate and audience and make the message last longer to the audience if it is done well.
